What is the process in Austria?
The requesting party will request the check from the ATS or their Zinc account.
- The candidate will submit their required details on Zinc and this will begin the check process
- If anything is missing, we will contact the candidate directly to provide these details

Once all required information is provided, iCOVER, our checking provider, sends an email directly to the candidate with instructions to apply for the certificate
- The email the candidate will receive has the subject line of "Criminal record certificate for Austria...":
- Candidates will need to scan and email the scanned certificate back to iCover using the email address provided in the email from iCover to complete the check
- Results are then available on Zinc for review by the employer
- The candidate receives an email to say the process is complete and they can review the results on Zinc

What is covered in the criminal check?
The copy of the criminal record certificate ("Strafregisterbescheinigung") issued by the Department of the Ministry of Justice has nationwide coverage, including citizens and foreigners over 18 years of age.
The issuance of the certificate is subject to the candidate’s explicit consent, a specific application form is mandatory for out-of-country candidates and is intended to serve one particular purpose indicated during the application process.
The Department of the Ministry of Justice reserves the right to issue or reject the issuance of the certificate after careful assessment and scrutiny of the nature of the request.
The certificate contains information for all of the following criminal convictions of offences, except those deleted by rehabilitation laws or considered spent:
- Violence against the person (Körperverletzung)
- Sexual offences (Strafbare Handlungen gegen die sexuelle Integrität und Selbstbestimmung)
- Burglary (Diebstahl)
- Robbery (Raub)
- Theft and handling of stolen goods (Hehlerei)
- Fraud and forgery (Betrug und Fälschung)
- Criminal damage (Sachbeschädigung)
- Drug offences (Drogendelikte)
The legal prescription of a sentence varies, depending on the type of offence committed and the sentence pronounced.
