Can I accept an expired passport for a Right to work check?

Expired passports can be accepted in the UK, for Right to work checks. However the Home Office requires employers to inspect them face to face. Zinc will flag when a document used has expired with a pink “Action required” tag on the check. You can download a copy of the passport from Zinc, but you will need to the documents and conduct a face to face inspection in order to gain your statutory excuse.
